How Much Insurance Do Parents Need?As parents, it's important to make financial decisions that will protect our loved ones in a time of need. One of those decisions that can make the biggest impact is the decision to purchase insurance.
There are many different types of insurance that parents should consider, though not all of them will suit your particular needs, situation, or finances. But, understanding what they are and how they can serve you is important when it comes time to choose which ones you will purchase.
Health Insurance - this type of insurance protects you and your family from the dangers of medical debt, and can provide for care and treatment in the event of sickness or an accident. Yearly checkups and vaccinations are also usually contained under a health insurance policy. Yours may or may not include dental insurance to protect your teeth, and vision insurance. However, it's a good idea to have vision insurance if you need glasses, and dental insurance is a must for adults and children.
Auto Insurance - will protect you in the advent of an accident in your vehicle. Some forms of auto insurance also include access to a rental car, repairs to your vehicle, to another vehicle, and even medical bills accumulated from the accident itself. In many states, auto insurance is a legal requirement.
Life Insurance - if you have kids, it's important to have life insurance. Purchasing a good life insurance policy will ensure that should something happen to you or your partner, your family will be provided for. Policies come in all sizes and shapes, depending your age and health.
Disability Insurance - This type of coverage provides money in case you're injured and can't work. It allows you to continue providing for your family while you recover. The best policies would provide at least 60% of your current income should you be injured.
Hopefully you'll never need to rely on any of the policies you choose to protect yourself and your loved ones. But if something should happen, having good insurance can offer you peace of mind, and a whole lot more. |
